Health Care E-lert -- Think, Before You Text

New guidance was issued by CMS on December 28, 2017 on physician texting. Physicians need to stop and think about the purpose for which they are sending a text, before going ahead with sending it.

Are you sending a text to communicate patient information within the same healthcare team? If so, then it is OK to send the text.

Are you sending a patient order? Then STOP. The recent CMS guidance makes it clear that texting is not a permissible platform for sending a patient order.
